Start from exact points and credits
Collect current quality points and GPA credits. Choose a target and a realistic number of future credits. The required future GPA equals target GPA times the eventual total credits, minus existing quality points, divided by future credits.
Check the ceiling before making a plan
A requirement above the scale’s maximum is not attainable in those credits under the model. More credits may change the arithmetic, but this tool does not establish whether taking them is appropriate, available, or permitted.
Keep academic support separate from arithmetic
Use the calculation to prepare for a conversation with an advisor or instructor. Identify the courses in which support would help and check repeat rules before assuming an old grade disappears. The simple goal model does not implement forgiveness.
ILLUSTRATIVE EXAMPLE
Put the numbers together
A 3.00 over 60 credits plus a 4.00 over 15 credits gives 3.20. Reaching 3.30 in those same 15 credits would require 4.50 and is impossible on the example 4.0 scale.
