What’s included in this grade scale?
Example scale, not a universal school policy. A+ = 4.0; plus/minus values use 0.3/0.7 steps. P and W are excluded.
Policy: example-4 · v1.0. Results rounded to 2 decimal places. GPA credits and earned credits are different.
NO GUESSWORK, JUST THE MATH
Every grade has a story.
Here’s how the numbers work.
Credits give each course its weight. A four-credit course counts more toward your GPA than a one-credit course.
- 01
Turn grades into grade points
Use the scale that matches your school. In this example, A = 4, B = 3, and C = 2.
- 02
Multiply by course credits
An A in a 3-credit course gives you 12 quality points: 4 × 3 = 12.
- 03
Add, then divide
Illustrative example: A/3, B/4, and C/2 give 28 ÷ 9 = 3.11 GPA, rounded to two decimals.
