Match the GPA to the decision
Semester GPA measures one term; cumulative GPA combines counted coursework; major GPA uses a program-defined subset. Ask which one a requirement means before comparing your number. A minimum may also come with course-grade or credit-load conditions.
Academic standing is school-specific
For example, ASU describes degree-seeking academic good standing using a minimum 2.00 cumulative GPA. That example is not a universal probation rule for every college or program. Check your institution’s current standing and progression rules.
Honors and applications are separate
A dean’s list can depend on the semester’s graded credit load, while graduation honors can use cumulative or upper-division GPA. Graduate and professional applications may recalculate a different course set. Résumé reporting should keep a major GPA clearly labeled.
Use a feasible improvement plan
Keep original quality points and GPA credits, then model future work. GPA alone does not measure all skills, research, experience or personal circumstances, and this tool does not predict employment or admissions outcomes.

At 3.00 over 60 credits, another 15 credits at 4.00 leads to 3.20. The existing credit total explains why a strong semester may change cumulative GPA only gradually.
